Nancy Raines started reading the Lord of the Rings at 11 and had to wait till she was 19 to finally get her greedy paws on The Silmarillion. She spent most of her life on the west coast of the US. She received her BS in General (Environmental) Engineering in 1980. She got her first engineering job at the same Navy base her submariner father had been discharged from some years before. She was the first woman at her shipyard to qualify to test submarine reactor plants. Then she went to the University of Washington for her MBA in 1991. She wrote the economic impact section of the Environmental Impact Statement for disposal of submarine reactors at Hanford Nuclear Reservation. She transferred to Naval Sea Systems Command HQ in 2009 and worked as a Program Analyst for the Executive Director at the DC Navy Yard. After retirement, she moved to Florida (like you do). Now she lives with her husband Roger a short drive from Mickey, changing her hair color regularly, and spending her Tuesday evenings teasing Dr. Olsen about Weathertop and Dwarves.
