Maggie Parke is an internationally recognised scholar of adaptation and fan studies whose work connects academic research with the realities of contemporary film and television production. Her research bridges academia and industry, examining not only how stories are adapted across media, but how creators and fans shape one another throughout the production process.
As Director of Signum Studios, Maggie oversees the development of original educational media and documentaries while leading production for the Signum Collaboratory. She is producer and presenter of the acclaimed Rings & Realms series and co-host of Other Minds and Hands, where she interviews leading creatives working across fantasy media, including artists, designers, and producers from Weta Workshop, Amazon MGM Studios, and Warner Bros.
Before joining Signum, Maggie’s research included work on the sets of Twilight (2008), Captain America (2009), and the Academy Award-shortlisted short film Love at First Sight (2010). She served as Head of Development at Elfin Productions in the UK and conducted research with Turbine Inc. on The Lord of the Rings Online (LOTRO) and DC Comics’ Infinite Crisis, examining the relationship between media production, game development, and fan communities.
Maggie continues to work across higher education and the creative industries, developing documentaries and educational programming, editing scripts, consulting on adaptation and fan engagement, and teaching at Signum University, CAPA University & IFSA Study Abroad in London. Her work uniquely combines scholarly research with practical production experience, making her a leading voice on adaptation studies, fan cultures, and production analysis.
Her publications include articles in the Journal of Gaming & Virtual Worlds (2009), co-editing The Twilight Saga: Exploring the Global Phenomenon (McFarland, 2011), and a chapter, “Utilising Fans in the Adaptation Process of The Lord of the Rings” (2015), in Intellect’s Fan Phenomena series. She also wrote the foreword for and was interviewed in Fan Phenomena: Twilight (2016).
Originally from the United States, Maggie now lives in Wales with her husband, daughter Hazel, and their dog Merlin. She moved to Wales after falling in love with Susan Cooper’s The Dark Is Rising as a child and remains passionate about stories, adventure, and bringing creators and audiences together through meaningful conversations about the worlds they love.
