What if you told a scholar, “You can teach any material you want for a month?” In our General Humanities sector, our preceptors get to bring little-known texts, nuanced pieces of history, fresh perspectives on movie literature, and more, for an in-depth learning adventure! Some classes might focus on Egyptian mythology, while others on the food culture of anime fans, and still others on a story within a Shakespeare play. Learn contemporary and historical languages in our Language sector!
Interested in Old Norse? How about Modern Japanese? Our Signum SPACE team of linguists, language teachers, and philologists lead fun one month courses in contemporary and historical languages of all kinds! Beginning language studies focus on building vocabulary and grammar while Intermediate and Advanced language classes often translate written work or videos to build skills. With beginning languages, a group of first month learners can continue together as a learning cohort as long as the group likes, until they are ready for intermediate work.

FAQs
Each SPACE Module costs one SPACE Token. The more tokens you buy, the less each one costs! To view the full pricing list, head to our Blackberry system.
SPACE classes are held on Zoom; once you enroll in a course you will see the registration link in our Blackberry system by selecting the course in Your Enrolled Modules. In addition, your preceptor will communicate with you by email and any materials they distribute will either be sent as email attachments or as shared Google documents. Ideally, you’ll want a computer with a webcam and microphone. It should be very easy to participate over your phone or tablet instead, if you prefer. In a completely desperate situation, it is even possible to call into the class session by telephone.
Class sizes range from four to 12 students.
This will vary a great deal from module to module, beyond the standard eight hours of class time. SPACE is all about pursuing your own interests and passions and not worrying about fulfilling mandatory requirements, so the amount of time you spend will depend a lot on you.
A few of our modules do require you to purchase, borrow, or in some other legal and upright manner acquire a textbook. Should that be the case, the required material will be noted in the module description on Blackberry.
If you need to miss a class, it’s best to email your preceptor. We don’t usually record sessions since they’re live, small-group discussions. However, we make two exceptions: Hybrid lectures are recorded and shared, and beginner language courses have some recordings available as those are ongoing, continuing module series.
A Hybrid Module is a blend of recorded content (either live recorded lectures or pre-recorded lectures) and live non-recorded discussion sessions. This allows students to engage with materials when it works best in their schedule.
If you register for a Module and then need to withdraw for any reason, we will refund your Token if you withdraw anytime before the third class session. After that, if you choose to withdraw we will not be able to refund your SPACE Token. Should you wish to take the SPACE Module again, you will need to use a SPACE Token to register.
SPACE Tokens never expire. You can purchase Tokens ahead of time and wait for a Module that appeals to you. You can also purchase SPACE Tokens as gifts.
