On August 3, 2015, Sparrow F. Alden presented her work constructing a concordance of The Hobbit with lexical analysis with the support of her thesis director Corey Olsen. This project fulfills a small part of the requirement for a Master of Arts degree in Language and Literature from Signum University.
Words were chosen for their relative uncommonness in the English language corpus in Project Gutenberg and tagged for several variables of interest (such as archaic). Analysis by the field of lexomics led to further study of those words which indicated sound-play or referred to food references. Just over 1,500 words met the uncommon criteria, and the concordance can be found here.
