You may also join our Facebook Group to stay in touch with our local organizers and discuss potential future dates and venues.

Original Details

Signum University is pleased to announce the second annual Sunshine Moot on Saturday, March 21, 2020, at The Serenity Center and CommUnity Space in balmy Oviedo, Florida.

Sunshine Moot 2020 will focus on “Tales and Songs.” Special presentations will include academic discussions, music, and of course, Dr. Corey Olsen – the Tolkien Professor himself.

We invite you to pull back the dreary grey-rain curtain of winter and join us in sunny Florida for this one-day event of entertainment and academic discussion!

Find more event information, discussion, and FAQ on our Facebook Group.

Registration

Registration is $45 and includes event entry plus a box lunch with a choice of turkey, ham, or Mediterranean (vegetarian) sandwich.

Call for Papers

Tales and Songs

We are accepting proposals now for short presentations that will facilitate group engagement. We are particularly interested in presentations that center on the intersection of the arts and mythic worlds with emphasis on subjects concerning music and its magical properties in storytelling. This concept is not exclusive to Tolkien, but is also present in many works of science fiction and fantasy literature, films, and television.

For each proposal:

  • Submit a 200-300 word abstract by Saturday, February 29, 2020
  • Send to [email protected] and [email protected]
  • Please include your name, email address, and academic affiliation (if any), along with the title of your presentation.
  • Individual presentations should be around 20 minutes long while leaving an additional 10 minutes for discussion, so please plan accordingly.
  • Acceptances will be sent by March 7, 2020.

We look forward to hearing from you and hope you can enjoy the symposium with us!
