As we mourn the passing of J. R. R. Tolkien’s devoted and brilliant son, Christopher Tolkien, join Signum and friends in a discussion of Christopher’s life and legacy on Tolkien studies and wider scholarship. We will ponder what makes up an “author”; the importance of an editor; how things might have been if Christopher had not worked on his father’s legendarium; and even the question of Christopher as an Inkling.
Join Dr. Corey Olsen, also known as The Tolkien Professor, on February 13, 2020, at 2pm ET as he hosts a panel discussion with Signum faculty and friends, including:
- John Garth, author of Tolkien and the Great War, Tolkien at Exeter College, and the forthcoming The Worlds of J.R.R. Tolkien
- Dr. Bradford Lee Eden, editor of The Journal of Tolkien Research, Middle-earth Minstrel, and The Hobbit in Tolkien’s Mythology
- Dr. Sara Brown, author of From Abjection to Alchemy in J.R.R. Tolkien’s Middle-earth Legendarium and Tolkien Studies lecturer and preceptor here at Signum
Please join us live to hear reflections – and share your own – on Christopher Tolkien’s stewardship of his father’s work and the importance of his work in helping to establish the discipline of Tolkien Studies. For those who cannot attend in person, a recording will be made after the event and posted to Signum’s YouTube channel.
