Join Dr. Corey Olsen on Saturday, September 30, as he dons his Wigend persona and leaps into the fray of Helm’s Deep in massively multiplayer online roleplaying game, The Lord of the Rings Online. Will he slay more orcs than Gimli and Legolas together? Come place your bets – and then donate your winnings to Signum.
This event is the continuation of an event that has become a traditional part of the Annual Fall Signum University Fundraising Campaign. “We’re going to be looking at how Lord of the Rings Online dramatizes and depicts the battle of Helm’s Deep,” Dr. Olsen explained in the video that launched this year’s campaign, “and enables players to play in that scenario.” As with previous LOTRO marathons, Dr. Olsen will be breaking new virtual ground, as he has never played the Helm’s Deep scenario or any of the other “epic battles” within the game. “I’m excited from a gaming perspective to interact with the epic battles that they do on LOTRO, but of course even more I’m really interested as a student of Tolkien and Tolkien adaptation to see how they handle the battle and the experience of the battle in the gaming context.”
