Signum University and the Mythgard Institute invite you to join us on Saturday, September 23, 2023, for Cascade Moot 2023: Be The Revolution. This hybrid event will take place at PELA in the Lloyd Center, in Portland, OR.
Signum University’s first Annual Cascade Moot invites you to join us as we consider our theme this year, “Be the Revolution”
Five years after Ursula K LeGuin’s passing, her spirit and writings continue to revolutionize the genres, industry, and indeed the people she touched. What Revolution has the life and legacy of LeGuin sparked and who or what will take us on from here? As she said: “You cannot buy the revolution. You cannot make the revolution. You can only be the revolution. It is in your spirit, or it is nowhere.”
What does a spirit of revolution need to thrive? Is revolution a necessary evil or a positive vehicle for change? Who qualifies to be a revolutionary, as opposed to a reactionary, or a ‘mere troublemaker?’ How have we pushed the boundaries through story into revolution? How can we use the genres of Imaginative Literature to revolutionize studies in the Humanities? Who is writing on the edge of revolution today, and what are they seeking?
Join us for a day of academic exploration of our theme, and fellowship with fellow travelers as we investigate revolutions across genre and time.
