From Classical Myths and Legends, Lewis & Tolkien, and Modern Fantasy II, to the second section of Germanic Philology, there’s something on offer to catch everyone’s interest.
The panelists will talk about their personal relationship with the course texts and topics, their visions for how the courses will work, and what students should expect if they register. Come and ask questions about the courses, or simply find out what’s happening, across the university, in the new term.
Spring 2020 Courses
Classical Myths and Legends – This course puts the myths and legends of the Classical world in their wider cultural and historical contexts.
Lewis & Tolkien – Students will examine the friendship and works of C.S. Lewis and J.R.R. Tolkien, and their influence upon each other.
Modern Fantasy II – This course explores fantasy literature written over the past 60 years with an examination of the works of six modern fantasy authors.
Germanic Philology II – This course provides an introduction to Germanic comparative philology in a broad sense. Students are not expected to have prior familiarity with any language other than modern English, although they will need to have taken Intro to Germanic Philology I first.
