Ashley Thomas


Ashley Thomas, AKA The Nerdy Blogger, is a Signum University graduate and volunteer, where she completed her MA in literature and language, concentrating in Imaginative Literature.

During her time at Signum, Ashley wrote her thesis on the ways medieval storytelling and intertextuality have influenced the mainstreaming of geek culture, using Stranger Things as a case study in this project.

Ashley is a freelance writer. She contributes to such sites as and its podcast, the Dearly Debated podcast, and is a regular contributor to many podcasts at the We Made This Podcast Network. She shares her thoughts on film and television in these venues, focusing on the horror and science fiction genres, and serves as the resident “Trekspert” at Fangirlish, covering all things Star Trek.

Ashley also puts her Imaginative Literature degree to good use at Roddenberry, writing scripts for the Sci-Fi 5 Podcast, where you can get 5 minutes of science fiction history, 5 days a week.

Ashley resides in North Carolina with her husband, Ryan and cat, Oliver, along with a large quantity of board games, comic books, laserdiscs, and polyhedral dice. She would like to be Leslie Knope, Hermione Granger, and Brienne of Tarth when she grows up.

Ashley was born in Tennesseee but works in space.
